Summer in New York City

timbarber_7ba2c870bc2ac91e1b007783fcc337a6I just finished reading “The Great Gatsby” and this line reminded me about the seasonality of life in New York.

“I love New York on summer afternoons when everyone’s away. There’s something very sensuous about it — overripe, as if all sorts of funny fruits were going to fall into your hands.”

Ironically, most tourists visit New York in the summer when the locals usually get off of work at 1 p.m. on Fridays and escape to the beach or mountains. You wouldn’t think that in one of the hardest-working cities the majority of people would get these “summer Fridays,” but it’s true.

To mingle with locals (and for optimal celebrity-sighting), visit New York in the summer mid-week!
